A Flight Between Paradise and Hell & Greetings from Taiwan! On my first day in Hualien, walking down the street, I came across something strange — colorful objects, flowers, sculptural forms that looked familiar but weren’t real. I didn’t know what I was looking at, but I felt drawn to it and stepped inside. There were cans, food, everyday items — but all of them were just representations. Somehow these objects completely hypnotized me. Only after a moment did I realize that the place I had entered was a funeral home. I became fascinated by how death is visualized here — through color, decoration, and excess. This led me further into temples, equally rich, ornamental, and beautiful. Eventually, I found myself in front of the “Eighteen Levels of Hell” — detailed, almost theatrical depictions of the afterlife. At the same time, there was something else constantly present — the sound of airplanes. After arriving here, I kept hearing them again and again. Each time, it triggered something in me, even though for local people it seemed completely normal. The motif of airplanes kept returning — in schools, in children’s models, even in the objects I encountered while preparing workshops. It kept returning, somewhere in the background. This exhibition is a walk — a process of following what appears, what attracts attention, what allows itself to be photographed. It is a personal journey through images, guided more by intuition than by plan. And somewhere along the way, I keep wondering: why is rice more expensive in Taiwan than in Poland?
